Derek Jeter shared a tribute to longtime New York Yankees announcer John Sterling after Sterling’s death on Monday.
Jeter, the legendary Yankee shortstop, praised Sterling as “as much a part of the fabric of the New York Yankees organization as any player.” He added that the longtime Yankee announcer will be missed.
“It was an honor to have him call every one of my games during my career and an absolute pleasure to get to know him on a personal basis,” Jeter wrote. “My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”

Sterling spent over a quarter of a century calling Yankee games on the radio. He became known for his colorful flair and catchphrases, including specific home run calls for every member of the Yankees. He retired after the 2024 season after a brief return for the playoffs.
