The Arizona Diamondbacks have locked up one of their best your pieces to a new, long-term deal.
The D-Backs have reportedly agreed to sign shortstop Geraldo Perdomo to a 4-year contract extension worth $45 million. The extension begins in 2026 and includes a club option in 2030 that would push the deal to $57 million.
Perdomo’s deal also has several lucrative incentives that could bump the final dollar figure up to $72 million. The 24-year-old is slated to earn just $2.55 million this season before the extension kicks in.

The Diamondbacks signed the Dominican in 2016, when Perdomo was still just 16 years old. He made his big-league debut in 2021
Perdomo came into his own during the 2023 campaign, when he earned his first All-Star nod. He batted .246 with 6 home runs, 41 RBIs, and an OPS of .712. While his numbers at the plate aren’t extraordinary, it’s his defense at the shortstop position that truly sets him apart.
Last season, Perdomo raised his batting average considerably to .273 and accounted for a career-high 3.5 wins above replacement. He likely would have made another All-Star team had he not missed two months of the season due to a torn meniscus in his right knee.
The move is hardly sexy, considering what Arizona’s division rival Los Angeles Dodgers have done over the past two offseasons. But the Diamondbacks have had a penchant for doing more with less. The Perdomo signing is very much aligned with that.
