Anthony Davis did not want DeMarcus Cousins back?
DeMarcus Cousins is taking a lot of heat for his decision to join the Golden State Warriors, but it turns out Anthony Davis may have had a role in it too.
New Orleans sports anchor Andrew Doak of WWL-TV reported on Tuesday that general manager Dell Demps would have listened if Davis wanted Cousins back with the New Orleans Pelicans. Doak also adds that Davis liked the team’s style of play and their locker room environment without Cousins.
Cousins, who was teammates with Davis in New Orleans for two seasons, tore his left Achilles in January and missed the last several months of the 2017-18 campaign. With Cousins out, Davis put up 30.2 points and 11.9 rebounds per game in the regular season to lead the Pelicans to the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference. He then averaged 30.1 points and 13.4 rebounds per game in the playoffs as New Orleans made it to the second round.
We know that Davis was all-in on recruiting Cousins’ replacement. Now in light of this report, it seems that chemistry concerns between the two may have played as big a part in Cousins leaving New Orleans as anything else.
