Carmelo Anthony won’t play against Lakers on Friday due to Kobe Bryant’s death
The Portland Trail Blazers are set to take on the Los Angeles Lakers at Staples Center on Friday night in what will undoubtedly be an emotional night, and Carmelo Anthony has decided not to take part.
Anthony has been ruled out for Friday night’s game due to personal reasons, and Shams Charania of Stadium has confirmed the speculation that Carmelo will not play in the game because he is grieving the loss of Kobe Bryant and Bryant’s 13-year-old daughter Gianna.

Anthony and Bryant were close friends, and Carmelo said in an emotional Instagram post this week that he spoke with Kobe recently and was expecting to see the former Lakers star at Friday’s game.
Charania also noted that Anthony and Bryant were supposed to have dinner together Thursday night in LA.
Players around the league are grieving the loss of Bryant and his daughter, and teams are allowing those players to handle the situation however they need to. We already saw another star player leave the arena the day of the helicopter crash and not return.
Friday’s game will be the first Lakers game at Staples Center since Kobe’s death.
