Curry: Raptors ‘disrespectful’ to leave Andre Iguodala so open

Andre Iguodala face

Steph Curry thinks the Toronto Raptors had a disrespectful strategy at the end of Game 2 on Sunday night.

The Raptors were trying to go for a steal on the Golden State Warriors’ final possession of the game rather than foul like we thought they should have. They nearly got a steal but instead the Warriors retained possession and ended up giving Andre Iguodala a wide open 3-pointer look. Iguodala buried it to seal the 109-104 victory for Golden State.

In his postgame interview, Curry said it was “kinda disrespectful” of the Raptors to leave Iguodala so open like that with the game on the line.

Raptors head coach Nick Nurse was asked about Curry’s assertion that their defense was disrespectful towards Iguodala. He disagreed.

“We weren’t disrespecting anybody. We were guarding hard and we put two on Steph. He almost threw it to Kawhi (Leonard). They found (Iguodala). If he’s going to take that and give us a chance to get the ball back and win the game, we’re probably going to live with that,” Nurse said. “It wasn’t like we were disrespecting him and not trying to guard him; we were going to trap and rotate there.”

Their strategy was not disrespectful to Iguodala. It just was not an optimal one, as fouling Draymond Green probably would have been the best way to go.

The series is now tied 1-1 with Game 3 on Wednesday.
