The Phoenix Suns’ head coaching job is Monty Williams’ if he wants it, according to a report.
The New York Times’ Marc Stein reported on Wednesday night that talk of Williams to Phoenix is gaining momentum.
League sources say that the Suns' job will be Monty Williams' job if he wants it … but Williams, as a coach in demand, has the rare ability to be choosy about where he wants to coach next

Williams has been a man in demand. He is a finalist for the Los Angeles Lakers’ job; the Sacramento Kings had interest in him before hiring Luke Walton; and Phoenix also is targeting him. One report said the Suns liked him so much that they fired Igor Kokoskov after one season in part because they wanted to hire him.
Williams may want to wait on giving Phoenix an answer if he is offered the job due to the desirability of the Lakers gig.
If Williams were to take the Phoenix job, he would need to do so under caution. They have had an alarming lack of consistency with coaches, making five changes since Mike D’Antoni left in 2008.
Williams, 47, is currently an assistant coach with the Philadelphia 76ers. He coached the New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans for five seasons from 2010-2015. They reached the playoffs twice under his leadership, though they did not advance past the first round.
