The New York Knicks have made some significant changes to their front office structure in recent months, but general manager Scott Perry has been informed that his job is safe.
Perry’s contract with the Knicks was set to expire this year, but Newsday’s Steve Popper reports that the two sides have agreed to a new one-year deal. Knicks president Leon Rose confirmed that Perry will remain with the team in a statement.
“Scott is a well-respected basketball executive who I have known for more than 20 years, and I look forward to continuing to work closely with him as we look to build a winning team in New York,” Rose said.
Perry was hired as the general manager of the Knicks in 2017, and the team has a record of just 67-163 since he came on board. Some of his moves have resulted in New York stockpiling additional draft picks in the future, though his decision to trade Kristaps Porzingis was an unpopular one.
The Knicks had been eyeing some big names to add to their front office, but they are keeping at least some of the status quo heading into the summer. The season being in flux may have helped Perry retain his job.
