The Washington Wizards will be in the market for a new GM after firing longtime team executive Ernie Grunfeld on Tuesday, and they will likely have plenty of suitors for the vacancy.
NBC Sports Washington reports that many executives find the job to be desirable and want it.
“It’s amazing how many guys want that job,” one rival league executive told Tom Haberstroh. “A ton of names want it.”
That meshes with what ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported, as he said the job was attractive to candidates.
Some of the reasons cited regarding the desirability of the job include: loyalty to the previous man in charge, the low initial expectations, and the franchise’s location and resources. Whoever takes over the job will have a lot of maneuvering to do considering how strapped the team is against the salary cap.
