GGG accuses Canelo Alvarez of using PEDs before first fight
Gennady Golovkin turned a typical media session on Tuesday into one that was very lively and full of accusations.
Golovkin had reporters at his camp in Big Bear where he is preparing to face Canelo Alvarez on May 5th. There is an added element surrounding the fight after Alvarez tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug called clenbuterol. Alvarez blamed the positive test on contaminated meat — a theory that was supported by comments from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC).
On Tuesday, GGG accused Canelo of being on PEDs before their first fight, which was in September. He also accused Canelo of having NSAC in his back pocket.
“Get him on a lie detector,” @GGGBoxing says of @Canelo, whose team is telling reporters there’s no access to his camp two weeks after the positive Clenbuterol result.

Golovkin says he didn’t think @Canelo was clean before their first fight, either. “It was pretty obvious his muscles had visible injections,” @GGGBoxing said. “Take a look at the photos and ask a doctor.”

2) GGG and his trainer, Abel Sanchez, accused Nevada commission of coddling Canelo. He said “before (their) first fight he was not clean.” Said he could see injection marks on Canelo’s arms.

The injection marks accusation is a strong one that surely will not be taken lightly by Alvarez. The two fought to a draw in September, which set the stage for an anticipated rematch.
Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs) still has not lost during his pro career. Many thought that he had the edge in the first fight.
Despite the PED accusations, GGG is not backing away from the May 5 rematch.
