Oscar de la Hoya Joked About Making a Comeback After Watching Dewey Bozella
Promoter Oscar de la Hoya was so inspired by 52-year-old Dewey Bozella’s win Saturday night that he joked about making a comeback.
“Bozella wins and has inspired me to make a comeback!!!!!” he tweeted Saturday night.
De la Hoya was joking, but some people took it seriously. Boxing writer Dan Rafael wrote a column on the subject and argued that de la Hoya should remain retired to avoid embarrassment. He even included comments from Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer who said Oscar has talked about a comeback.
Oscar then spent the day Sunday bashing Rafael for using the joke as a reason to rip the ex-boxer.
After we reached out to Golden Boy to confirm Oscar was joking, the boxer-turned-promoter sent out a few more tweets to confirm he was only kidding. Now we just need to make sure that Bozella isn’t so inspired by his win that he tries to fight again.
