The coroner’s report regarding the death of Laken Snelling’s baby has been released.
Snelling appeared in Fayette District Court in Lexington, Ky., on Tuesday due to charges of abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and concealing the birth of an infant. She pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Snelling, who is a member of the University of Kentucky’s competitive cheerleading team, had a baby who was found dead on Aug. 27. The male baby was found wrapped in a towel and inside a trash bag in a closet.
A preliminary autopsy has been conducted, and the results were inconclusive. The Fayette County Coroner issued a statement about the matter.
“I understand the community’s concern and sensitivity surrounding the death of a child,” Ginn said in the report. “This death effects many lives in our neighboring state of Tennessee and as well as those in the Commonwealth. We are currently conducting a thorough and methodical death investigation to ensure all facts are carefully considered.
“This death investigation remains open pending the results of these studies. There is no additional information that can be released at this time.”
