One perfect bracket remains for first time ever entering Sweet 16

March Madness

We could have history in the making with this year’s NCAA Tournament.

A historic lack of upsets in the tournament has led to many successful brackets, including one known remaining perfect bracket — the longest a bracket has ever remained perfect since the NCAA’s website has tracked it.

A bracket called “Center Road” entered in the NCAA’s online challenge has gone a perfect 48/48 on picks through the tournament’s first two rounds.

Center Road picked every single game correctly in the first two rounds, including the first-round upsets by Liberty, UC Irvine and Murray State. The bracket also predicted that the runs for all those teams would end in the second round and that the favorites would prevail.

So who does the bracket have in the Final Four, you ask? Three No. 1 seeds (Duke, Virginia, Gonzaga) and one No. 2 (Kentucky). The bracket has Gonzaga beating Kentucky for the title.

They’ve been perfect thus far, so maybe the run will continue over the remaining 15 games.

Oh, and wondering how improbable it is to pick 48 straight games correctly? NCAA shares the odds at 1 in 281,474,976,710,656, although that assumes each game was a coin flip rather than a matchup between some heavily favored teams. Regardless, we know how prevalent upsets can be, so this person’s achievement is nothing short of spectacular.
