Jimbo Fisher is making sure his name stays in the conversation with numerous high-profile college football coaching jobs potentially opening up.
Fisher spoke at the Birmingham’s Monday Morning Quarterback Club in Birmingham, Ala. on Monday and made clear that he misses coaching and wants to get back to it. The former Florida State and Texas A&M coach made clear, however, that he would not take just any job.
“I want to coach somewhere that’s committed to winning,” Fisher said, via John Talty of CBS Sports. “Just make sure they give us the resources to be able to win. I know it’s about money, but you’ve got to have the resources to put into the game to win and do it the right way. The grass is just as green everywhere.”
In other words, Fisher wants to land a big job with plenty of resources at his disposal. That could certainly describe the vacant Penn State job, though his name has yet to come up in strong connection with it yet. It could also describe Florida State, though that job is not yet open and it is fair to question whether the two parties would want a reunion even if it was.
Fisher’s tenure at Texas A&M proved disappointing, but he still has a lifetime record of 128-48 and a national title to his name. He will presumably get some looks, but any job has to work for him from his point of view.
