Many Florida State Seminoles fans want to see coach Mike Norvell fired after the team’s latest loss, but it sounds like those fans might be waiting a while longer.
Florida State athletic director Michael Alford confirmed Monday that Norvell’s job is safe for now. In a statement, Alford said that no changes would be made to the football program until the end of the season.
“As we continue to move forward this season, our comprehensive assessment of the football program will be completed at season’s end. Meanwhile, we are fully committed to helping Coach Norvell and the 2025 Seminoles strongly rebound in the coming weeks,” the statement read.
In a statement, FSU AD Michael Alford says the school is “fully committed” to Mike Norvell this season and a “comprehensive assessment” of the program will conclude at the season’s end.

In other words, Norvell is not going anywhere right now, even though the Seminoles are 3-4 after Saturday’s loss to Stanford. They have lost four straight after winning their first three, a stretch that sparked optimism thanks to a win over Alabama.
The Seminoles were hoping for a rebound after going 2-10 last year, and made some big changes to try and make that happen. Ultimately, all they got was more of the same. However, firing Norvell would cost Florida State as much as $54 million, so it is not a decision they will want to make if they can at all avoid it.
