Mike Gundy and Les Miles posted tributes on Twitter Wednesday to the late T. Boone Pickens following the news of the billionaire’s death.
Pickens was an energy executive and entrepreneur, making his money initially in the oil and gas fields. He attended Oklahoma State for college and later became the school’s biggest donor, often being heavily involved in the Cowboys’ football program.
Gundy has been the Cowboys’ football coach since 2005 and shared this Twitter tribute to Pickens, who died at age 91:
Mr. Pickens is a big part of our success and we’re all thankful for the lasting impact he’s had on Oklahoma State. It would have been difficult for us to climb as high as we have without him. He’ll be missed, but his legacy here will live on for a long time to come. pic.twitter.com/1jYVwBcHo0

Les Miles, who coached Oklahoma State prior to Gundy, also shared a tribute.
Boone Pickens was a man who impacted the lives of so many people in a profound way, including me. He was a friend and his gentle spirit, kindness, and generosity will never be forgotten. Rest easy, Boone. pic.twitter.com/JPv9XrH2ul

Gundy had some ups-and-downs in his relationship with Pickens due to the status of the football program, but the two were aligned on one thing: they always wanted to win.
