Georgia’s football team was victorious in its first game of the season, defeating North Carolina 33-24 on Saturday behind a standout performance by Nick Chubb. On Sunday, the junior running back was hilariously mentioned during a pastor’s sermon.
Chubb was well on his way to an impressive sophomore season until he suffered a season-ending knee injury on the first play of scrimmage in the game against Tennessee last October. You can see video of the play here. He racked up 747 yards and seven touchdowns in the five prior games. Now fully recovered, Chubb was back on the field this past weekend and rushed for 222 yards and two touchdowns versus the Tar Heels.
The following day, during a spirited sermon at a church in Decatur, Georgia, Pastor E. Dewey Smith Jr. brought up that he was watching the Georgia-UNC game and “hollered so loud the alarm system went off” as he watched Chubb.
Please excuse me-It got good to me today! I'm so old-school & "churchy". Sometimes I have to holla. @NickChubb21 pic.twitter.com/HWZcqyIxmq

Here’s a portion of what Dewey said, as transcribed by Dawgs247:
“I was screaming and hollering in the house,” Smith said. “I was hollering so loud the alarm system went off. I was hollering loud because I saw Nick Chubb score a touchdown for Georgia. He came back from a knee injury last year and ran for 200 yards. I was screaming so loud that the Lord probably thought someone was breaking into my house. They thought the light, they thought the doors and the windows were breaking because I was yelling that loud.”
Pastor Smith surely wasn’t the only one hollering while watching Chubb post the third 200+ yard rushing game of his career and first since the 2014 Belk Bowl. However, the way Smith described it and the setting he was in makes the moment fantastic.
