Stephen Jones confirms Cowboys will start Dak Prescott, may add veteran backup
Dak Prescott will start for the Dallas Cowboys as long as Tony Romo is out, with the team admitting that they may look for a veteran backup in the short term.
Executive vice president Stephen Jones confirmed that Prescott would start in Romo’s absence, but left the door open for a backup option.
“We look forward to Dak being our starting quarterback Week 1, which it looks like it’s going to be the case if Tony can’t go,” Jones said, via David Helman of the team’s official website.
Jones did not outright confirm that the Cowboys would get another backup, but he certainly didn’t rule out the possibility.
“We’ll just see. There’s a lot of ways to acquire players,” Jones said. “There’s quarterbacks that are out there and don’t have a home right now, and then there’s quarterbacks that other teams have right now – of course we can’t talk about those players.”
For now, though, it will be Prescott, who certainly isn’t lacking in confidence. The team will desperately hope that his good preseason carries over into meaningful games.
