Dennis Allen could be fired; Tony Sparano could replace him

Dennis Allen Raiders

I’m not sure what a Dennis Allen is, but whatever it is, it reportedly could be fired this week.

Associated Press reporter Terry Collins said on Twitter Sunday night that Allen has been fired by the Oakland Raiders and the announcement could come by Tuesday. Collins later deleted the tweet, causing some confusion. But there’s no mistaking that Allen’s job is in jeopardy.

The Raiders are 0-4 and have looked pathetic almost the entire season, including Sunday’s 38-14 loss to the Dolphins in London. They also lost 30-14 to the Texans in Week 2 and were only competitive in Weeks 1 and 3, where they lost to the Jets by 5 and Patriots by 7.

Allen went 4-12 in each of his previous two seasons.

The Raiders made several offseason moves to bring in more accomplished veterans, but that has not translated to a more competitive product on the field. ESPN’s Adam Schefter says Tony Sparano could take over as the team’s interim coach if Allen is indeed fired. We would expect them to be better under the former Dolphins head coach.
