Drew Bledsoe: Playing QB for Jets is like being a sacrificed virgin
The New York Jets do not have a good track record when it comes to quarterbacks. They really haven’t had a great signal caller — one who is not past his prime — since Joe Namath was lighting it up in the 1960s and 70s.
Let’s allow Drew Bledsoe to break it down for us in simpler terms.
During an appearance on ESPN Radio earlier this week, Bledsoe spoke about Mark Sanchez and compared playing quarterback for the Jets to being a sacrificial virgin.
“Going to play quarterback for the Jets … it’s kind of like, you know when they used to take the pretty young virgin up to the edge of the volcano and then just throw them in?” Bledsoe said, via Seth Walder of the New York Daily News. “That’s kind of what it is when you play quarterback for the Jets. It just feels bad.
“Mark had to live with that for a long time,” Bledsoe added. “And people threw him under the bus like he was the whole reason for the demise of the Jets. To see him be able to come on to the field in a good system, with good talent and perform well, I’m just really happy for him.”
Sanchez looked solid when Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles went down with an injury on Sunday. We’re not ready to say he would be an above-average quarterback if he never played for the Jets, but it certainly didn’t help his career.
It seems like no matter what the Jets do, their quarterback situation becomes a disaster. Is that because they have drafted and signed bad players or because the system sucks? Sanchez might give us an answer in the coming weeks.
