Kareem Hunt admitted he’d fail drug test, had vodka in car during traffic stop video

Kareem Hunt

Kareem Hunt was issued a citation for a traffic stop in Ohio last week, and it sounds like the officer who pulled Hunt over could have caused a lot more problems for the Cleveland Browns running back.

A report from the incident stated that small amounts of marijuana were found in multiple locations in Hunt’s vehicle, though he claimed they were not his. In a lengthy video from the stop that was released by the Rocky River Police Department on Monday, the officer can be heard asking Hunt about an open vodka bottle he had in a backpack in the back seat. While Hunt wasn’t cited for that, the officer explained that he could have issued him a ticket for it.

Hunt admitted to the officer that he would be drug tested by the NFL if he were issued a citation for possession of marijuana, and he said he would likely fail the test.

“It’s the offseason,” Hunt said. “Sorry, I was having a good time.”

The officer told Hunt he is “one of the hugest Browns fans” and talked to him about football, and it certainly seems like Hunt is fortunate the officer cut him a break. He could have been issued multiple citations and possibly even arrested.

While Hunt isn’t going to face any additional legal trouble, the video could be bad news for him. The NFL can take disciplinary action against him even though the officer was lenient. Hunt was suspended for the first half of the 2019 season after he was seen on video shoving and kicking a woman at a Cleveland hotel in February 2018, so he was expected to avoid even the most minor slip-ups after being reinstated. Driving around with traces of marijuana and an open container of alcohol in your car is not a great look.
