Patriots taunt Jets with butt fumble tweet

The current New York Jets team has very little to do with arguably the most infamous play in franchise history, but that isn’t going to stop the New England Patriots from mocking them for it leading up to Sunday.

On Thursday morning, the Patriots took a shot at the Jets over the “butt fumble” with a tweet from their official account:

This seems relevant. #TBT pic.twitter.com/NWGWeaxiU9

If for some reason you never saw the play where Mark Sanchez ran face-first into the backside of one of his offensive linemen, you have no idea what you’re missing out on and can watch it here.

A lot has changed since that game, and very few people expect the Patriots to beat the Jets 49-19 this time around. But since ESPN decided to retire the butt fumble from its “Worst of the Worst” segment, I guess the Patriots feel an obligation to keep it alive.

UPDATE: The Patriots later deleted the tweet, which almost certainly came per the order of Bill Belichick. Belichick hates bulletin board material.
