Taylor Lewan tweets he is retiring, deletes it

Taylor-Lewan

Is Tennessee Titans offensive lineman Taylor Lewan thinking about calling it a career?

Lewan, a first-round pick in 2014, tweeted early Thursday morning that he has decided to retire. He deleted the tweet not long after sending it, but here’s a screenshot:

Hacked? Just messing around? Angry about something and overreacting? No one really knows.

Lewan is just 24. The Titans took the former Michigan star with the 11th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, and he looked great during his rookie season filling in for then-injured left tackle Michael Roos, who later retired. This past season did not go as well. Lewan committed costly penalties and was stripped of his captainship by Mike Mularkey when Mularkey took over as interim head coach.

Perhaps complicating matters more, the Titans took another offensive tackle — Michigan State’s Jack Conklin — at No. 8 in this year’s draft. Lewan has said he would not be comfortable playing right tackle, but Conklin has been getting reps at both spots in practice.

It’s unclear what is going on with Lewan or why he sent that tweet, but I’m sure the Titans would like to know.
