Former number one overall pick Joe Smith is 35 and in his 16th season in the NBA. The veteran forward may not see much playing time these days, but he’s still big-time off of it. Or, at least he was.
Smith, like many athletes, was hooking up with a girl who was not his wife. Smith was with some actress/model wannabe named Deanna Marie, treating her to games and hanging out with her at clubs. But Deanna got ticked when she apparently found out Smith was hooking up with another girl. Shocking, right?
Upset she wasn’t the only girl on the side, Deanna decided to get back at Joe by posting pictures of herself and Joe hanging out together, knowing the pictures would spread and hurt his home life. She was right.
The pics and tweets got back to Smith’s wife, Yolanda Smith (pictured at the top), who took everything in stride. She wrote on her account “Please don’t tweet me with any ish. You have him right? So why are you still worried about me? … And only a hoe will take pictures of personal items and post them #pow. … If they did it to me they’ll do it to you.”
The saga, which I first saw at Media Take Out via Ben Maller, is truly pathetic. How stupid can you be if you’re the girlfriend on the side? If he’s messing with you, how can you be naive enough to think you’re the only one? The whole thing reminds me of the classic mantra basketball wives live by — it’s understood they’ll cheat, just don’t get caught and embarrass me. Whoops!
