The Boston Bruins have sent a message that they want to contend in the postseason this year, as they have reportedly acquired veteran left wing Rick Nash in a trade with the New York Rangers.
TSN’s Bob McKenzie first reported on Sunday that the Rangers will receive a package including a first-round pick and defensive prospect Ryan Lindgren in exchange for Nash. The team later confirmed the details.
OFFICIAL: #NYR have acquired a first-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, defenseman Ryan Lindgren, forwards Ryan Spooner and Matt Beleskey, and a seventh-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft from the Bruins in exchange for Rick Nash.

Nash, 33, is the type of big-bodied goal scorer the Bruins were looking to add before Monday’s trade deadline, and it appears they have accomplished that goal. The former No. 1 overall pick’s scoring numbers have been down a bit in recent seasons, but he’s a five-time All-Star who has eclipsed the 40-point mark 10 times in his 15-year NHL career.
The Bruins are currently 59-37-14 and the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference.
