Twitter reacts to Capitals, Ovechkin winning first ever Stanley Cup
One thing we knew entering the Stanley Cup Finals was that the outcome would yield the first Cup victory for either franchise. This time around, it’s the team that’s been waiting much longer to hoist Lord Stanley’s Cup that prevailed.
The Washington Capitals won their first Stanley Cup in franchise history — a history that began in 1974 — when they beat the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 on Thursday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. They won the series in five games, a big turnaround from the last time they made the Cup Finals and got swept by the Red Wings in 1998.
Alex Ovechkin, who has been a star for the franchise for 13 seasons, finally got the monkey off his back with his first Stanley Cup win.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to the huge sports moment:
Good googly-moogly. Never thought I'd see the day. #Caps #Cup https://t.co/FgSWU3ptOO
