Germany sets records in World Cup win over Brazil

Sad Brazil fans crying

Tuesday’s World Cup semifinal match between Germany and Brazil was supposed to be a great game between two of the top soccer teams in the world. Instead, it turned out to be a disaster of epic proportions for the home team, as Germany ran off with a 7-1 victory and set records in the process.

The Germans handed Brazil their worst World Cup loss ever. They scored five goals in the first half including a mind-blowing four in six minutes. They added two more goals in the second half and led 7-0 before the Brazilians finally got on the board in the 90th minute.

Brazil was playing without Neymar Jr. who has a fractured vertebrae suffered in the quarterfinals, and Thiago Silva, who received two yellow cards in the quarterfinal win over Colombia. Still, nobody could have seen this coming.

Let’s look at all the records Germany set in the win

– Miroslav Klose set a World Cup record by scoring his 16th career goal

– Germany became the fastest to score 5 goals in the first half of a World Cup game

– Germany set a record for most goals in a World Cup semifinal game with 7

– Germany set a record for margin if victory in a World Cup semifinal at 6

– Germany set a record by reaching their eighth World Cup final

As for Brazil … well things were really ugly

– This equals their worst loss in team history (previously they lost 6-0 to Uruguay in 1920)

– Brazil had not allowed more than 5 goals in an entire World Cup since 1998

– This was the worst loss for a host nation in a World Cup
