Donald Trump: I’m keeping deposits from NASCAR, PGA

Donald Trump made some comments about Mexican immigrants recently that have had a ripple effect on the sports world. Last week, NASCAR announced that it will not return to Trump National Doral Miami resort for its postseason banquet this year. On Tuesday, the PGA of America revealed that the Grand Slam of Golf will no longer be held at Trump National Golf Club in Los Angeles.

Not surprisingly, Trump doesn’t care. In fact, the Republican presidential candidate said in a statement that both NASCAR and the PGA have done him a favor.

“What were the losses?” the statement read. “One NASCAR banquet in a magnificent ballroom at Trump National Doral in Miami for which I will keep their very substantial deposit and rent the ballroom to someone else that night — in other words, two fees instead of one (NASCAR has already apologized to me)!

“In the case of ESPN, they cancelled a simple golf outing at my course, Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, perhaps the most valuable parcel of land in all of golf. Likewise, they lost a large deposit. I will now let people use the course on that day, receiving substantial additional greens fee income. Again, I get two fees instead of one.”

Trump stands behind his remarks about the Mexican government forcing “criminals, drug dealers and rapists” into the United States. His stance on immigration has already created outrage among millions.

Trump has tried to immerse himself in sports culture many times in the past, most recently with this message to Tom Brady about Deflategate. When you have the money he has, you can pretty much say and do whatever you want without consequences.
