Rex Ryan and Michelle Ryan Foot Fetish Coverage Shows Change in Media

The good ol boys over at Deadspin have done it again. Two months after blowing the foreskin off the Brett Favre schlong pics, they revealed the story of Michelle Ryan’s foot videos. Ryan, the wife of outspoken Jets coach Rex Ryan, appears to have been featured in several YouTube videos under the name “ihaveprettyfeet.” In one video, the voice of the person running the camera sounds exactly like Rex. The videos disappeared around the time Rex took over as head coach of the Jets, but as we all well know internet foibles die hard.

As if the foot fetish videos reappearing weren’t already enough, there is an “ihaveprettyfeet” profile on a Foot Lovers Dating site whose information matches up with Michelle Ryan’s. Still not horrified? Get this, an alt.com profile (a site for BDSM & Alternative Lifestyle Personals) advertises a couple whose information also matches up with that of the Ryans.

Ready for the dirty? Check out these bullet points from their alt profile:

    > Sexual Orientation: Bi-curious
    > I think about ALT lifestyle: Sometimes
    > Role: Submissive
    > Level of Experience: I am new at this

Honestly, we’ve moved from Beyond Creepy Ave. to Deviant Way along the superhighway of ICantEffingBelieveThis. How is it possible for such a high profile person to have such a lack of common sense? Did he not think any of this would be discovered? I guess he went two years without any references, so maybe, but holy shnikees.

What’s almost as surprising as Rex engaging in an alternative sexual lifestyle with his “supermodel” wife is the way the media has covered this. ESPN.com, Yahoo! Sports, NBC Sports, and SportingNews.com have the AP story on their front page. FOXSports.com is going to town with the news, listing it in their front page headlines under the title “Coochy Coochy Kook.” Needless to say the New York rags have made it front-page news. CBS Sports and SI seem to be the only mainstream sites completely avoiding the story, indicating they don’t feel it qualifies as relevant sports news worthy of coverage.

The reality is that by saying this was a “personal matter” and not outright denying it, Rex Ryan has essentially confirmed it’s him. Even if that’s the case, and even if it’s something everyone is talking about because of the gossipy and shocking nature of the story, it still doesn’t really qualify as news. The only regard in which this story matters is how it may distract Rex from preparing for his team’s upcoming against the Chicago Bears. I can’t see any other reason that makes this story relevant towards sports news, aside from it being the type of stories that attracts almost anyone’s attention.

When a story like this gets front page treatment from so many major sports media players, it shows that no subject is off limits. It also further confirms what we already knew — the days of athletes being protected by the media are over, thanks in large part to folks like Deadspin. And you know what? That might not be such a bad thing. It will keep people honest (unless they just don’t care, which could be the case for Rex).
