LeBron James: I Would Beat Kobe One-on-One, Game Will Never Happen (Video)

It’s always fun to think about how superstars match up against each other individually. Despite the fact that they never actually face one another, people love to play the Peyton Manning vs. Tom Brady card. With that in mind, we can understand why speculating about one-on-one match-ups is more fun in basketball — where they could feasibly happen.

A couple weeks ago, a number of NBA players were asked who they thought would win a one-on-one pickup game between Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.  For a variety of reasons, most of the players picked Kobe.  King James does not agree.  In fact, this is the last time he’s going to comment on the subject.  Check out this video from the Orlando Sentinel:

LeBron may be willing to go up against Kevin Durant in a flag football game, but he’s clearly not interested in finding out who would win a game between the world’s 1A and 1B basketball players.  Obviously there are plenty of reasons the game would never happen, but why is LeBron so annoyed with the question? Does it really bother him that people think Kobe would win?  Given his reputation as an egomaniac, we certainly have no reason to doubt it.

Chest bump to Jocks and Stiletto Jill for passing the video along.

He said regardless of who he play, he “will always come out victoroius”. Well, he didn’t come out “victorious” over Dirk in the 2011 NBA Finals.  Dirk blew past him MANY times, while James just stood flat footed. For a split second, I thought maybe someone had nailed his feet to the hardwoods.

he is just showing his insecurity, because kobe is more popular to fans than he is. at age 25 kobe has already a championship ring, which lebron has to still earn. kobe stick ti his team win or lose, while lebron, moved while losing, is this a king? not to everybody’s perspective. a king should show his strength on drought times, did lebron showed his? i guess no!!!!!! so lebron should stop comparing himself to anybody!!!!!

Poor Lebron. As misguided as he is as it relates to his competitive abilities, what else is he supposed to say..? The fact is he’s been absolutely ineffective when it mattered most in his career to this point.. He should be concerned as to whether or not,at this point in his career if he’ll ever raise the NBA trophy just once.

The only chnace LeBron would have is if they only played 3 quarters.

I DON’T LIKE EITHER KOBE OR LEBRON……BUT I DON’T WANT LEBRON TO WIN ANYTHING SO I’LL TAKE KOBE ANY DAY……BUT THEY BOTH LOST TO DIRK….LOL!!!

  • Anonymous

Because that’s what it’s about LeBron, or should I say señor Clank, beating Kobe in a pickup game…not winning championships. Now I understand those playoff bricks much better Monsieur Choker.

  • Gilbert Mad

It would generate big bucks and interest Kobe vs Lebron on Fox or whatever station would promote it. But whatever happens, Lebron’s status would remain the same and most important…NO NBA CHAMPIONSHIP!

  • http://twitter.com/ty_haynes ty haynes

    Lebron….STFU!!!! Please!

  • Dravenious Darkfold

First of all . I’m not a Lebron fan but honestly what did you think he would say? He said he would put his money on him, and ANY MAN, would do the same thing in something you were good at. If Brady and Manning were in some type of throwing competition do you think either wouldn’t bet on himself?, c’mon guys.

as a big fan of basketball, I’m truly sad re: the goings on between ownerss and players! What I understand is: the owners PUT out the big Bucks and the players TAKE “em through huge contracts; so isn’t it just NORMAL for the owners to get back some profit? If a player puts out his best then he reaps REWARDS !!! So everybody who is concerned, PLEASE consider the FANS who PAY for seats at games!! LET”S ALL see the awarding of the RINGS to the CHAMPIONS, DIRK and the MAVERICKS!!!

  • Anonymous

as Darkfold already said, of course LeBron wont bet against himself. But how confident would he be if the question was, “who is the better performer at crunch time”?

Kobe in his mid to late twenties-his prime-would have run circles around Lebron. All the talk in the world means nothing. Walk the walk don’t talk the talk.

  • clyde hanamaikai

Why even bring up the topic of a one on one with Kobe?  Lebron got beat last year by dirk.  With all this NBA lockout stuff, shouldn’t Lebron be training on the off season and worried about trying to get a championship under his belt.  Rather than trying to see who is better than who.  Obviously Kobe is a better player.  He has the rings and when put to the test, he deals with them head on, and keeps playing.

    go mavs -
Lebron may say himself, but his game says otherwise.

lebron would have rings to if he had shaq…. or bynum and odem by his side..wade didnt do it till shaq came along…look at the players that lebron had beside him in cleveland,no where near the height or the talent that kobe had with him all those years he won those titles. Can you blame the guy for not taking the money and going after a championship instead? Didnt kevin garnet do the same thing when he left the timberwolves. Carmelo Anthony left to new york for a better chance to. If it wasnt for those 4th quarter melt downs, miami would of won it. Im not impressed that dirk and dallas beat an aging kobe and the lakers or that they had to come from behind through out the series to win the title.

as far as kobe vs lebron? Just leave that to the video games.

If he couldn’t guard Dirk there’s no way he could guard Kobe. Fact.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YDLZ63R67MOWSMPWPZ7QAQZLWM Verieth Collins

That’s not one on one. Plus, James didn’t guard Dirk. Slow as Dirk is compared to Lebron, do you REALLY think Dirk would blow pass Lebron? Man, stop it.

Btw… Kobe and Lebron are not the 2 best players in the game…. It’s Wade at the top imo.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2K6I3YV2GFRIA5BSTNQHA4RDPE The one

The Lebron haters are in full effect today! Why wouldnt he bet on himself? And what’s wrong with his response?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YDLZ63R67MOWSMPWPZ7QAQZLWM Verieth Collins

Why do people keep saying that Lebron couldn’t guard Dirk? Dirk and Lebron plays at 2 different positions… I guess you people would do anything to bring Dirk’s name up. Hooray, Dirk FINALLY won after his 14th year. KNOCK IT OFF.

Anyway, Lebron would beat Kobe easily… AT ANY POINT OF THEIR CAREERS. Kobe’s only chance would be if he got hot from outside.

  • Anonymous

Lebron, work on getting your first ring please! How many rings does Kobe have? 5 or 6. If you were in the class of a Kobe Bryant you would have two rings on your finger now, but unlike Kobe Bryant, you choked on both occasions. You rememember back in Cleveland when you quit in the middle of the game with the Boston Celtics, and with Miami when D. Wade had to carry the offense and once again you choked. Dirk dogged you!  Kobe is a winner! Lebron is a disappointment!/loser

    hahaha
    pweaver2
makes a good point. lebron has been so close yet he loses.

off against the mavs. He complained bout doing it by himself event with allstar dwayne wade he couldnt do it. Lebrons weak.
Kobe still going to another championship. Lebron will never be kobe. OR “the next michael jordan” haha what a joke

  • Bud Lewellyn

Lebron, Lebron!  Wake up, Kid.  If you ever, ever get as good at basketball as you are at bragging, you will be a real crackerjack.  We have all seen your skills, just as we have all seen your limitations.  Live with it and try to control the mouth.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VPVKLRFWM43CK6RLTOJ2ULV7LU WOW

in order to beat Kobe one on one he has to win it 5 times Kobe is laughing at him right now and he doesn’t care he has more rings then him WHO CARES IF YOU CAN BEAT HIM worry about you winning one than trying to beat someone else

Shaq played in Cleveland before he was a Celtic, and the Cavs finished in first place in the east that year you genius. The result? No ring.

Who cares anyway.I’m watching college basketball and don’t care if the season happens or not

  • http://twitter.com/Casesean Sean case

kobe never took his team to the finals by himself he had help from top players when lebron was at clevelend he to the cavs to the NBA finals by himself  kobe never really earned his like that

  • http://twitter.com/Casesean Sean case

GET OFF LEBRONS BACK HE WILL ALWAYS BE BETTER THAN KOBE RINGS DONT MAKE YOU THE BETTER PLAYER ATTITUDE AND SKILL RANGE DO AND WE ALL KNOW WHO IS BETTER LEBRON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Anonymous

I would have loved to see the matchup when Kobe was in his prime! Not stating that Kobe doesn’t have the drive. He has learned that this is a team sport. Today Lebron may be able to beat him one on one. However, beating someone one on one is much more overated than winning numerous rings. Until Lebron win a ring there is nothing to celebrate!

What makes a great basketball player is how they play with their team, how they interact with their team mates, etc.

When Lebron was in Cleveland, coaches stated that he was hard to coach, didn’t want to listen, and was full of himself. He was never the team player that Kobe was, who gave it all he had and won championships for his team. Lebron quit on his team over and over again, and in the end left like a jackass.

He had the potential to win rings, he had the potential to be a great player, but what makes him not is his ego. He was handed to much to quickly without ever earning it, unlike Kobe who got to the point in his career through a lot of hard work and training.

  • Anonymous

Until Lebron wins a championship, who cares who he can beat (debatable) one on one.  Rings dont matter??? Give me a break!! As great as MJ’s skills were would we feel the same about him if he didn’t win championships?? I seriously doubt it!!  And for those Kobe haters everybody needs help to win a championship even MJ so please stop using that tired line about Kobe needing Shaq, Odom, etc.  He is a 5 time champion, Lebron? not so much!!!!!!!

  • Anonymous

umm correct me if i’m wrong, which i’m not….. but LeBrick James DID play on the same team as shacq in Cleveland to which he responded by choking yet again in the playoffs… BOOM ROASTED D BAG!! Can’t spell choking without K-I-N-G.

  • Anonymous

Wow!! Wow!! Wow!! Poor Lebron crying as always, you can beat Kobe, Dirk, Jordan, Majic and bragg all you want about beating them 1 on 1……Sad thing is you’ll be polishing all of their NBA Championship Rings that YOU will Never Win!! Just like those Nike muppet commercials….Keep crying Lebron and keep Drooling over Kobe’s Rings!!!! HAHA~!!

  • Anonymous

Sean case….man o man….wishfull thinking, i guess! So i guess Lebron will be the Dan Marino of Basketball??? Another Karl Malone?? Rings dont make you a better player??? Really? So losing everytime you go the the Finals make you the better player?? Well Lebron will be known as a loser in the finals but will be known as a Great Player! Cool!! Keep leing to yourself just like Lebron!!

  • Anonymous

Whre do you live!! Lebron had Shaq, Nothinh happened!!! Lebron had Wade AND Bosh!!! Remember!! Nothing happened………..Kobe won with 2 entirly different teams!! Lebron took the money and went for the title???? What title??? Not impressed that Dallas cam from beind and won the title?? Dude how old are you? 10?? The city of Dallas is Very impressed they came from behind and Won the NBA Title!! I’m sure you would be impressed if Miami did the same but Again Lebron Failed!! Kobe 7 trips to the Finals and 5 Rings!!! 3 in a Row and 2 in row Titles!!! Right Behind Jordan for all time Greats!! Lebron 0-2….Keep making excused for the loser!!

  • http://twitter.com/DJ_TooReal DJ

That would be LeBron.. Kobe is 36 for 115 with the game on the line. Thats only 31%. While LeBron is at 23 for 69, 33%… Soooooooo I guess ur crunch time arguement was pointless??? Go ahead and bring up the Miami/Dallas Finals.. But remember who MADE it to the Finals, and who got swept in the 2nd round..

  • http://twitter.com/DJ_TooReal DJ

This guy wants to suck Kobe up lol.

no player however good can take a whole team to playoffs or any other championship by themselves and if you think that way then you`d have to say that lebron choked every time all by himself

  • Anonymous

    Who cares?

  • Anonymous

lame. theres no way dirk could match up to lebron 1 on 1. as far as the finals go, team miami didnt come out victorious over dallas. its a team sport. it has nothing to do with lebron vs dirk, but rather miami vs dallas you idiot.

  • Anonymous

Yeah Dallas has one championship to 16 for the Lakers.

  • Anonymous

16 championships for LA to one for Dallas and Miami.  You can’t win it every year.
