Lane Kiffin’s son Knox receives scholarship offer from Power 4 school

December 19, 2025 by Grey Papke
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

Knox Kiffin, the son of LSU head coach Lane Kiffin, has received a scholarship offer from a Power 4 school.

Kiffin posted on social media that he has received an offer from the Washington Huskies.

Blessed to receive a offer from the University of Washington ☔ @CoachJeddFisch @CoachJimmieD @GregBiggins @BrandonHuffman @SWiltfong_ @ChadSimmons_ @CoachReyes_ @Lane_Kiffin @BlairAngulo pic.twitter.com/5G8RuppdgE

— Knox Kiffin (@KnoxKiffinQB) December 18, 2025

Washington is the second Power 4 school to offer Kiffin a scholarship, as SMU has also done so. A few smaller schools have also made him offers.

Knox Kiffin does appear to be shaping up to be a legitimate recruit, even though he is in the class of 2028. He is not yet ranked, but the sophomore at Oxford High School in Oxford, Miss. threw for 11 touchdowns on the season. One can assume he will be looking for a new place to play next season after his father’s acrimonious departure from Ole Miss.

There is, of course, always a chance that Kiffin winds up playing for his father at LSU. He may have played a part in leaking the news that Lane was taking the job, though it is not clear if he actually wants to play for his dad or if he would prefer to strike out on his own.

Seahawks LB Derick Hall suspended by NFL

December 19, 2025 by Grey Papke
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Derick Hall has been suspended by the NFL for stomping on an opponent.

The NFL determined that Hall stepped on Los Angeles Rams guard Kevin Dotson during Thursday’s game at Lumen Field in Seattle, Wash. The league determined Hall committed “an act of unnecessary roughness and unsportsmanlike conduct” by stepping on Dotson’s ankle.

This is the play #Seahawks LB Derick Hall is getting suspended one game for, where the NFL alleges he stepped on #Rams G Kevin Dotson.

Hall is appealing the suspension:

Hall was not flagged on the play and plans to appeal the suspension, likely arguing that he was trying to step over Dotson instead of on him. Dotson was injured seriously enough that he had to be carted off the field and was seen on crutches following the game.

This is a very quick turnaround time for an NFL suspension, as it came less than 24 hours after the incident actually happened. The league obviously felt that Hall intentionally did it, and clearly wanted to handle this as quickly as possible.

If the suspension is upheld, Hall will be forced to miss Seattle’s Week 17 game against the Carolina Panthers. The third-year linebacker has appeared in 13 games this season and has 29 total tackles and one sack.

Dillon Brooks fouling Steph Curry

Dillon Brooks gets criticized for his dangerous foul on Steph Curry

December 19, 2025 by Darryn Albert
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

Dillon Brooks went after yet another NBA superstar this week.

Brooks and the Phoenix Suns faced off on Thursday against Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors. In the final minute of the fourth quarter at Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix, Ariz., Brooks committed a dangerous foul on the Warriors star Curry.

Curry was attempting a three-pointer from the right corner, and Brooks came in way late to contest. Brooks jumped towards Curry, and then in a seemingly separate motion, whacked Curry across the stomach and ribs area. Here is the video.

Dillon Brooks took a SHOT at Steph Curry’s ribs for no reason pic.twitter.com/9cHtZTnZiT

— BrickCenter (@BrickCenter_) December 19, 2025

Brooks was whistled for a flagrant 1 foul on the play, which resulted in two free throws as well as possession for the Warriors. Golden State was trailing 96-91 at the time, but they were able to tie the game during that trip down the floor after Curry hit both flagrant free throws and teammate Jimmy Butler proceeded to make a three-pointer.

Phoenix still went on to win though by a final score of 99-98. Suns guard Jordan Goodwin was fouled by on a putback attempt with 0.4 seconds left and hit the second of two free throws to give Phoenix the victory.

As for Brooks, he was resoundingly criticized online for the dangerous foul on Curry. Some even questioned how Brooks was not given a flagrant 2 on the play and ejected.

What is Dillon Brooks thinking here other than trying to intentionally hurt Steph Curry?

There’s no reason for that type of wind up and to smack a guy in the stomach well after the play. I’m surprised the refs didn’t throw him out for this. pic.twitter.com/X6JhVZARXO

— Brett Siegel (@BrettSiegelNBA) December 19, 2025

The former All-Defensive selection Brooks is known as one of the NBA’s great superstar irritants these days and made headlines earlier in the week for the latest chapter in his rivalry with LeBron James. But part of Brooks’ M.O. is seemingly dirty plays as well, which we have seen some notorious examples of in even the playoffs.

Dolphins may have already decided on Mike McDaniel’s future

December 19, 2025 by Grey Papke
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel has seemingly been on the hot seat for the bulk of the season. In reality, though, he might not have much to worry about.

McDaniel is likely to be brought back in 2026, according to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports. Prospective general manager hires are also operating under the assumption that McDaniel will be retained.

“They love Mike,” a league source told Jones. “They felt like he’s had a tough hand and they want to give him a shot.”

McDaniel appears to be the one figure in Miami not being blamed for the Dolphins’ rough season. General manager Chris Grier was fired in October, while quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is being benched for the remainder of the season. That decision appears to have been made by McDaniel himself.

McDaniel’s record with Miami is very mixed. He guided the team to the playoffs in his first two seasons, but has failed to continue that success in each of the last two years. He has also drawn significant criticism from pundits, particularly when the Dolphins got off to a 2-7 start this year.

The Dolphins are going to look a lot different next season, as Tagovailoa might not be back and another star looks to be out the door too. Organizational leadership clearly trusts McDaniel to guide the franchise through that turmoil.

Brian Windhorst suggests only 2 teams are in play for LeBron James in 2026-27

December 19, 2025 by Darryn Albert
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

Brian Windhorst cannot envision LeBron James playing for a fourth different NBA team.

The ESPN analyst Windhorst appeared this week on “The Ryen Russillo Show.” During the episode, Windhorst spoke about the future of the Los Angeles Lakers star James beyond this season.

Windhorst indicated that he can only realistically envision James playing for two teams in 2026-27 — the incumbent Lakers as well as the Cleveland Cavaliers.

“I could see LeBron as a Cav or as a Laker,” said Windhorst. “Suppose that I could see him maybe one or two other places. Like, I could I could construct something. I could see that, but he doesn’t have anything to prove. He doesn’t need anything.

“And I think he can keep playing with the Lakers,” Windhorst added. “He’s just not going to do it at 50 million.”

James, who turns 41 later this month, is only under contract for this season at $52.6 million. Many have assumed that this will be James’ final year with the Lakers, in part because of his reported offseason issues with the team (as they look to fully build around the Luka Doncic era instead) and in part because retirement is also very much on the table for James after a whopping 23 NBA seasons.

To his credit, James has looked decent ever since missing the first month of the season due to a right sciatica issue. Though his overall numbers are down (18.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game), James has moved fairly nicely into a more complementary role for the 19-7 Lakers.

That would seemingly suggest that James could still have a future in a lesser capacity with the Lakers beyond this season. That could also be true of the Cavaliers, James’ native team whom he played 11 total seasons with and led to an NBA championship in 2016. Cleveland was also linked to a potential reunion with the four-time MVP James earlier this year after James posted a notable message about them over social media.

Rick Pitino would not raise banner for NBA Cup

December 19, 2025 by Matt Wadleigh
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

The New York Knicks are the 2025 NBA Cup champions after defeating the San Antonio Spurs 124-113 in Las Vegas on Tuesday. Despite the title, the Knicks decided not to raise a banner in Madison Square Garden.

The Knicks’ decision not to put a banner up has sparked mixed reviews, but former Knicks coach Rick Pitino admits he also wouldn’t want to hang a banner.

“For a tournament in Vegas, no, I would not hang a banner. I would congratulate them, say it’s awesome. It’s great winning the Cup, but that’s Madison Square Garden. We hang championships and we hang [banners honoring] legendary figures,” Pitino said, via Adam Zagoria of NJ.com.

The Knicks said the decision not to raise a banner was because they have “bigger goals in mind.”

Former NBA star Dwight Howard said the Knicks should “celebrate your wins while you can” as he disagreed with the decision not to raise a banner.

Previously, the Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks chose to hang banners in their respective arenas after winning the NBA Cup.

Pitino was the Knicks’ head coach for two seasons from 1987-1989. He has notably coached at Kentucky and Louisville in college, and now, St. John’s. He has won two national championships in college basketball, so he knows all about focusing on the big goals rather than the small ones.

NBA brings back a controversial referee

December 19, 2025 by Grey Papke

The NBA is bringing a controversial referee back into its ranks.

Eric Lewis, a veteran official who retired in 2023 amid a league investigation, has been reinstated into the NBA’s officiating program, the league announced Friday.

Lewis will initially officiate G League games before any possible return to the NBA.

The following has been released by the NBA. pic.twitter.com/uGPxlQFCUR

— NBA Communications (@NBAPR) December 19, 2025

Lewis came under scrutiny in 2023 when it was discovered that he allegedly used a burner account to defend himself from critics on social media. He ultimately announced his retirement before the league’s investigation could be concluded, so no official findings were ever made public.

The NBA acknowledged in its statement that Lewis “made a mistake in engaging on social media,” seemingly confirming that the burner account was really his work. He was required to complete stress management counseling and training on responsible use of social media before he could be reinstated.

A 19-year veteran at the time of his initial retirement, Lewis was regarded as one of the NBA’s better officials, and had worked the NBA Finals for four straight years from 2019 to 2022. His history as a quality official is likely a big reason why the league was willing to welcome him back at all.

Arch Manning is taking a pay cut from Texas

December 19, 2025 by Grey Papke
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

In an era where college athletes are seeing their NIL figures go up with every passing year, Texas quarterback Arch Manning is taking a very different approach.

Manning has agreed to take a pay cut from Texas’ revenue sharing pool for 2026, according to Justin Wells of Inside Texas. Manning is entitled to a share of compensation from Texas’ revenue sharing cap, but has agreed to reduce his share to help the Longhorns build a stronger roster for next season.

Manning can no doubt take the hit, however significant it may be. The quarterback has numerous off-field endorsements that will ensure he still makes millions in 2026, even if less of that money is coming from the school itself. In the past, he has shown a willingness to be more conservative with his NIL deals than many others would be in his position.

The 2026 season is likely to be Manning’s last at Texas before he heads off to the NFL. From that perspective, it makes sense that he wants the strongest possible roster around him with the hopes of winning a national title before he exits.

By now, Manning has dedicated his commitment to the Longhorns. He was willing to sit behind Quinn Ewers for two years without being tempted to transfer, and his willingness to take a pay cut is a selfless move, even if he can make up for it in plenty of other ways.

Manning overcame some early struggles in 2025 to throw for 2,942 yards and 24 touchdowns. Texas recovered after a 3-2 start by winning six of their last seven games, including a decisive victory over rivals Texas A&M in their final game of the season.

Pirates close to trade for 2-time All-Star

December 19, 2025 by Grey Papke
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

The Pittsburgh Pirates are apparently serious about trying to upgrade their roster this offseason.

The Pirates are closing in on a three-team trade to acquire Tampa Bay Rays infielder Brandon Lowe, according to reports. The Rays would receive two prospects, while the Houston Astros are acquiring pitcher Mike Burrows from Pittsburgh.

If trade is completed, outfielder Jacob Melton and right-hander Anderson Brito would head from the Astros to the Rays. https://t.co/MsNFiX3LB0

— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) December 19, 2025

Lowe, 31, is a two-time All-Star, including this most recent season. He is a career .247 hitter coming off a 31 home run season. Injuries have been an issue for him, but in his prime, he was one of the Rays’ most valuable players. He profiles as a designated hitter at this point in his career, but the Pirates desperately need more punch in their lineup, so he is still a fit.

The Pirates are known for being thrifty, but there have been signs that they might actually be willing to shell out for talent this offseason in a way they have not in the past. Lowe is due $11.5 million this season, though he is a free agent at the end of 2026.

Pittsburgh is coming off a 71-91 season that saw them average roughly 3.5 runs per game. Improving the offense is a huge priority if the team wants to have any shot at contending behind Paul Skenes and the pitching staff.

Fans all said the same thing about Al Michaels during Thursday Night Football

December 19, 2025 by Grey Papke

Thursday’s game between the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks was one of the best of the NFL season, but many fans felt that it was lacking in one department.

Broadcaster Al Michaels was the subject of more criticism following what many felt was an uninspired performance on Amazon Prime’s broadcast. Many felt Michaels’ calls were lacking energy, particularly on Puka Nacua’s overtime touchdown that put the Rams ahead.

Complaints about Michaels were pervasive on social media. In addition to his perceived lack of energy, fans complained that he seemed to be behind the action far too often.

Al Michaels is so washed. I know we say it every week but it’s like he’s watching the game on 3 second delay.

— Jack Mac (@JackMac) December 19, 2025

Michaels, 81, has received criticism for his lack of energy for years. In the past, he has blown off the complaints, and would likely do the same now. The problem, however, is that to many, his calls are only getting worse, and they are doing so at a time when Amazon is aiming to become a bigger part of the NFL broadcast picture.

Michaels is essentially deciding on his future on a year-to-year basis at this stage of his legendary career. While even his critics admit he has had a legendary career, they are also hoping that he might call time on that career when this season ends.

Puka Nacua addresses his deleted post about refs

December 19, 2025 by Grey Papke
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua addressed his deleted post about the officials after Thursday’s 38-37 overtime loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Nacua doubled down on his criticism of the referees after the overtime loss, once again suggesting that some made questionable calls just to garner attention. The post was deleted shortly after it was made.

The wide receiver admitted that the post had come out of “a moment of frustration,” and regretted being a distraction.

Puka Nacua said he tweeted this in "a moment of frustration." He said he has to play better to not let games come down to calls but brought up 2-point plays and defensive calls as issues.

He said he learned there's a time and place for everything and regrets being a distraction. https://t.co/s2yDVo3TWB

— Nate Atkins (@NateAtkins_) December 19, 2025

Nacua was doubling down on comments he made on a livestream during the week about attention-seeking referees.

It is certainly understandable why Nacua would have been frustrated after such a difficult loss. On the other hand, that is one reason why frustrated NFL players probably shouldn’t be rushing to their phones immediately after a game.

Nacua’s comments took away from an incredibly dominant performance. He made had 12 catches for 225 yards and two touchdowns in the defeat.

This is not the first time this week that Nacua has gotten himself in hot water with his comments and actions. He likely faces a fine, both for his original comments and for doubling down on them after Thursday’s loss. He might want to lay low for a while after becoming such a distraction.

So long, LBS

December 19, 2025 by Steve DelVecchio
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

“15 years is a long time.”

That’s the phrase I have heard over and over again in recent weeks almost any time I share the news that I’m leaving Larry Brown Sports. It’s true — 15 years is a very long time, but it hasn’t felt that way here.

I often tell people that I’ve never had a real job. Let’s face it, most people do not view “sports blogger” as a full-time job, and there are few who have been able to call it one. I never thought I would, either.

My only real career goal growing up was to work in sports. I spent four years at UConn trying to find ways to make that happen. The only thing I ever heard from guidance counselors and the like was some variation of, “everyone wants to work in sports, so you better have a backup plan.” You want to be a sports journalist? Better just focus on the journalism part and hope the other stuff falls into place.

No one (myself included) ever thought it would be feasible to turn sitting at home writing about basically whatever you want into a career, but that somehow happened for me.

It was only fitting that I discovered Larry Brown Sports via a website called “Work in Sports.” I was finishing up my senior year in Storrs, and that seemed like as good a place as any to start. I figured maybe someone would give me an opportunity to write a few articles here and there to build a portfolio. Heck, maybe I could even put some stuff together that would impress ESPN.

It turns out I never needed the World Wide Leader, which is a concept my 18-year-old brain would have had zero chance of processing. What was essentially a part-time hobby very quickly turned into a full-blown career, even if everyone from my closest friends to the lady who filed my taxes was baffled by the nature of what very few would refer to as “a real job.”

“Larry Brown? You mean, like, the coach?”

“No, not him, a different Larry Brown.”

“But it’s sports?”

“Yeah, it’s sports.”

“Like Barstool?”

“Kind of, more like Barstool than like ESPN, but no, not really like Barstool.”

“And this is a full-time job?”

“Yes, it’s a full-time job”

“Damn, that’s awesome. Let me know if they’re hiring.”

To the general sports fan, the job sounds like such a dream that it seems like anyone can do it. Those of us who have done this (and only this) for the last 15-plus years know how far from the truth that is, but exchanges like that always helped put things into perspective.

15 years is a long time. It’s 15 more than I ever thought I’d be able to spend earning a living from something called “Larry Brown Sports,” and I couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve built. LBS is still around and still independently owned because we outworked the competition, and that hasn’t changed. I certainly don’t expect it to now that I’m moving onto a “real job,” either.

I may pop in for a guest appearance at some point down the road, but my days of sprinting to the computer to cover the blockbuster trade or the latest drama between Tom Brady and Gisele have, in all likelihood, come to an end. While I’m excited for the next chapter, bittersweet is the only way to describe it. I’ll miss almost everything that went along with being a full-time whatever-you-want-to-call-it.

Thank you.

Sam Darnold had great comment about Seahawks’ 2-point conversion

December 18, 2025 by Larry Brown
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

Sam Darnold had a great comment about the wild 2-point conversion his Seattle Seahawks had during their 38-37 overtime Week 16 win against the Los Angeles Rams at Lumen Field in Seattle, Wash., on Thursday night.

The Seahawks came back from down 30-14 in the fourth quarter to win the game in OT. The got help from the refs with a favorable call on a crazy 2-point conversion to tie the game at 30. They later won it in the extra period.

Darnold started the game slowly, but he closed with a pair of touchdown passes and 2-point conversions to help his team win. He knows that the call on the first two-point conversion was somewhat lucky, and made a joke about it after the game.

Darnold was interviewed on ESPN’s “SportsCenter” after the contest and gave the old “just how we drew it up” comment.

“I’m glad he picked up that fumble, I guess,” Darnold said of the play. “Just how we drew it up. I told the receivers after that play, ‘I knew that was a lateral.’ Me and Zach had talked about that. We knew Jared Verse was going to tip the ball and no one was going to be around it. We talked about it before the game started.”

At least Darnold is having fun with it by joking that the Seahawks had it planned out. Because, obviously, they never would have expected that to happen.

The referees were correct that Darnold’s pass did travel backwards (barely), but for that seemingly incomplete pass to end up as a Seahawks 2-point conversion is wild. That’s why they teach you to never give up on a play.

Sean McVay wanted answers after Rams were burned by bizarre two-point conversion ruling

December 18, 2025 by Renzo Pocholo Salao
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay was left dumbfounded by a controversial call that came to define Thursday night’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.

The Seahawks went for a two-point conversion while trailing 30-28 with about six minutes left in the “Thursday Night Football” matchup at Lumen Field in Seattle, Wash. The Rams appeared to get the successful stop as a pass from Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold deflected off Rams linebacker Jared Verse’s helmet (video here).

However, referees reviewed the play and determined that Darnold had made a backwards pass to running back Zach Charbonnet. Therefore, the deflected ball was actually a live fumble rather than an incomplete pass.

Charbonnet nonchalantly picked up the ball in the end zone in what everyone initially assumed was a dead play. The decision turned out to be crucial as it rewarded Seattle with a successful two-point conversion to tie the game at 30. The Rams went on to win 38-37 in overtime.

After the game, McVay told reporters that he did not understand how the referees awarded the Seahawks a successful two-point conversion. The Rams coach believed the referees had already ruled the play as an incomplete pass, with both teams already preparing for kickoff.

“I’ve never seen anything or never been a part of anything like that, and I’ve grown up around this game,” McVay said during his postgame press conference.

The Rams led Thursday’s game 30-14 with under 10 minutes left in the contest. While the questionable call helped the Seahawks scratch out a surprising win, a myriad of things had to go wrong for Los Angeles to lose arguably the team’s most important regular game of the season.

Matthew Stafford threw for an astonishing 457 yards — the most he’s recorded in over a decade — to go along with three touchdowns. Puka Nacua caught 12 passes for 225 yards and a pair of TDs. But their efforts weren’t enough to help the Rams take a solo lead atop the NFC standings

Puka Nacua rips refs in an online post moments after Rams’ ‘TNF’ loss

December 18, 2025 by Darryn Albert

Puka Nacua decided to double down in a big way after Thursday’s brutal loss.

The Los Angeles Rams fell on “Thursday Night Football” to the division rival Seattle Seahawks. They blew a 30-14 lead in the fourth quarter and saw the Seahawks fight all the way back to tie the game at 30 and force overtime.

Then in overtime, the Rams scored a go-ahead touchdown on a 41-yard strike from quarterback Matthew Stafford to the star receiver Nacua. But the Seahawks then responded with a 65-yard drive capped by a four-yard touchdown pass from Sam Darnold to Jaxon Smith-Nijgba. Seattle proceeded to go for the win with a two-point conversion … and got it as Darnold found tight end Eric Saubert to give the Seahawks the thrilling 38-37 victory at Lumen Field in Seattle, Wash. (thereby clinching a playoff spot in the process).

While the Rams did largely have themselves to blame for that humiliating blown lead, there were at least a couple of controversial calls that went against them during the game. In the first quarter, the Rams got a touchdown wiped off the board by a curious illegal-man-downfield call. Then in the fourth quarter, the Seahawks were able to tie the game on one of the craziest two-point conversations ever (which also generated major controversy).

The Pro Bowl receiver Nacua made waves earlier this week by going on a livestream and calling out supposedly fame-hungry NFL referees for making lousy calls. Then after Thursday’s game, Nacua couldn’t even wait five minutes before continuing his crusade against the officiating.

Seahawks converted the ‘craziest ever’ 2-point conversion on ‘TNF’

December 18, 2025 by Renzo Pocholo Salao

The Seattle Seahawks were blessed with a borderline miracle Thursday in the closing stages of their Week 16 game against the Los Angeles Rams at Lumen Field in Seattle, Wash.

The Seahawks, trailing the Rams 30-22 midway through the fourth quarter, had 1st-and-10 just outside the red zone. Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold zipped a bullet pass to tight end AJ Barner for a 26-yard touchdown, giving their team a shot at a game-tying two-point conversion.

The Seahawks’ two-point conversion play called for Darnold to hit running back Zach Charbonnet with a short pass left. The play seemed dead after the pass deflected off Rams defensive lineman Jared Verse’s helmet.

However, referees reviewed the play and determined that Darnold had made a backwards throw. Therefore, the deflected ball was actually a live fumble rather than an incomplete pass. Given that Charbonnet nonchalantly picked up the ball in the end zone, Seattle’s two-point conversion was deemed successful.

Amazon announcers Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit both called it the “craziest ever” two-point conversion, considering the magnitude of Thursday’s regular-season game. The teams entered the contest tied atop the NFC standings with a potential first-round bye on the line.

The Seahawks trailed 30-14 two minutes into the fourth quarter and stormed all the way back to force overtime, thanks in part to one of the weirdest successful two-point conversions ever.

Fittingly enough, the Seahawks finished the job with another two-point conversion in the extra period to win 38-37.

LaMelo Ball reportedly has 1 notable trade suitor

December 18, 2025 by Darryn Albert
FacebookTweetLinkedInRedditThreadsWhatsAppEmail

LaMelo Ball could be going international (again).

The Toronto Raptors checked in on the availability of the Charlotte Hornets star Ball over the summer, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported Thursday. That would seemingly suggest that Toronto could pursue Ball once again ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline, especially now that they are third in the Eastern Conference at 17-11 while the Hornets are 12th at 9-18.

Ball, the 24-year-old former All-Star, is currently at a low point of his value. He is averaging a modest 19.9 points per game on middling 40/32/88 shooting splits this season (to go along with 6.0 rebounds and 8.5 assists per game).

On top of that, Ball continues to be plagued by the injury fairy. He has appeared in only 17 of Charlotte’s 27 games so far this season due to ankle and wrist issues (though Ball did return to the lineup for Thursday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks).

When it comes to the Raptors, they have a good thing going on right now with their core trio of Scottie Barnes, Brandon Ingram, and Immanuel Quickley. But Toronto has lost six of their last nine games now and may feel like they are still one piece away from true contention.

Ball is in the second year of sizable five-year, $203.9 million contract with the Hornets. We already heard a few weeks ago that three Western Conference teams might be in the mix for Ball. But now it looks like the asset-rich Raptors could be in on Ball too (as they appear to be going big-game trade hunting right now).

Marshawn Lynch on Amazon's "Thursday Night Football" panel

Marshawn Lynch could not stop cursing during ‘TNF’ broadcast

Marshawn Lynch had Amazon Prime producers on edge whenever his mic was on during Thursday’s game between the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field in Seattle, Wash.

The Seahawks icon was a guest panelist for the “Thursday Night Football” broadcast alongside his peers Ryan Fitzpatrick, Andrew Whitworth, Richard Sherman, and Tony Gonzalez. Lynch sure treated the experience like he was having beers in the backyard with the boys rather than being in front of a camera watched by millions.

Amazon had to censor Lynch multiple times in the span of just a few minutes as he remained completely unfiltered whenever he spoke. Curse words were flying like Santa’s reindeers during Christmas.

Lynch swore as he complained about not seeing as many fans wearing his jersey anymore.

LOL, THEY BLEEPED OUT FORMER #SEAHAWKS MARSHAWN LYNCH ON AIR 😂🤣

The outspoken running back also dropped some F-bombs as he talked about his visit to Ireland.

Marshawn Lynch is probably the most entertaining person in football. 🤣

Lynch also got bleeped out as he confused the word “rivalry” with “robbery.”

Lynch was once opposing defenses’ worst nightmare as the Seahawks’ powerful All-Pro running back. On Thursday, he hilariously struck similar fear into the hearts of Amazon’s production team.

It’s not the first time Lynch has sworn on national television, and it more than likely won’t be the last.

Ausar Thompson confronting referee John Goble

Ausar Thompson gets ejected after confronting referee John Goble

Ausar Thompson was not exactly in the holiday spirit during Thursday’s game.

The Detroit Pistons forward Thompson was ejected on Thursday against the Dallas Mavericks. During the second quarter at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Tex., Thompson got called for a foul after a rebound by Dallas guard Ryan Nembhard.

Thompson was adamant that he had not committed a foul and got right up in the face of referee John Goble. As a result of Thompson confronting him, Goble quickly T’d up Thompson and ejected him from the game.

Thompson, 22, has been a crucial role player for the Eastern Conference-best Pistons this season, averaging 11.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per game while also providing some elite defense and hustle. He finished Thursday’s contest with eight points, two rebounds, and two assists in just nine minutes before he got ejected.

As for Goble, who was the crew chief for Thursday’s game, he has a reputation as an official with a short hook. Goble was also the referee who was once involved in an incident with Marcus Smart that resulted in Smart being disciplined by the NBA.

Rams get a TD taken away by a controversial illegal man downfield call

Puka Nacua is quickly getting something else to rage about.

The Los Angeles Rams were on the receiving end of a controversial call during their “Thursday Night Football” matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. In the first quarter at Lumen Field in Seattle, Wash., Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford fired a short touchdown pass to tight end Terrance Ferguson on a 4th-and-goal play from inside the Seahawks’ one-yard line.

However, the referees threw a flag on the play that nullified the touchdown. Rams guard Justin Dedich had blocked his assignment during the sequence and ended up a couple of yards deep into the end zone. As a result, Dedich was flagged for a five-yard illegal man downfield penalty (a.k.a ineligible receiver downfield), and the Rams had to settle for a field goal on the drive instead.

Even Amazon Prime rules analyst Terry McAulay did not agree with the call and said during the live broadcast that “this really isn’t a foul.” Here is the video.

A Rams touchdown was taken off the board due to officials calling a penalty for illegal man downfield on 4th-and-goal at the 1. They had to settle for a field goal.

According to the NFL rulebook, an offensive lineman may not go more than one yard past the line of scrimmage before a forward pass is thrown. However, an exception exists for if the offensive lineman maintains continous contact with an opponent throughout (e.g. while blocking).

Regardless of whether or not the call was correct, the Rams managed to shrug it off and took a 13-7 lead over the Seahawks into halftime. But after the Rams star receiver Nacua spoke out this week about supposedly fame-hungry referees making bad calls, the team quickly found themselves getting a touchdown negated by a controversial call during their game this week.
