While I grant that it’s not as offensive as the Washington Redskins, what other nationality (aside from the Fighting Irish) has to contend with kind of exploitation?

I think it should be banned, because if teams began using Jewish or African-American terms for mascots, we wouldn’t want them objectified in such a way.

I actually go to the University of North Dakota, so obviously this is an issue I’m familiar with (well, not the way they address each other, but the nickname debate and suit)… what I don’t understand is how Fighting Sioux is “hostile and abusive” according to the NCAA, but the Seminoles (with the guy riding on horseback in full Native gear) is not.

As a sidenote, I really don’t like the NCAA.

Yo: The story on the Fighting Sioux reminded me of the Indian custom of naming their children after the fist thing they see after the birth.

So, somewhere in the Dakotas there is a young lady named “Two Dogs Fucking.”
