Kurt Warner: Toning Down Jesus Talk Would be More Effective for Tim Tebow

Kurt Warner was known as one of the most religious players in the NFL when he played. One of his most notable moments was when he won the Super Bowl and bellowed “Thank you Jesus!” As Christ-focused as he was, the former Rams and Cardinals quarterback quickly learned that constantly mentioning the Lord can be a turnoff for some people, so he made an adjustment.

“There’s almost a faith cliche, where (athletes) come out and say, ‘I want to thank my Lord and savior,’” Warner told the Arizona Republic. “As soon as you say that, the guard goes up, the walls go up, and I came to realize you have to be more strategic.”

Warner feels that’s a lesson Tim Tebow could benefit from.

“You can’t help but cheer for a guy like that,” Warner said of Tebow. “But I’d tell him, ‘Put down the boldness in regards to the words, and keep living the way you’re living. Let your teammates do the talking for you. Let them cheer on your testimony.’

“I know what he’s going through, and I know what he wants to accomplish, but I don’t want anybody to become calloused toward Tim because they don’t understand him, or are not fully aware of who he is. And you’re starting to see that a little bit.”

Tebow has already turned off former Broncos quarterback Jake Plummer with his constant religious mentions. Although Plummer respects Tebow’s game, he says he’d like Tebow more if he weren’t so overbearing. Many other people feel the same way. But Tebow said he won’t stop thanking the Lord any time he has the chance.

As for me, even though I don’t follow Tebow’s religious beliefs, it doesn’t turn me off. I just tune it out and respect him for all his other positive characteristics: he’s hardworking, dedicated, honest, and a good teammate. As long as you’re living your life with those types of values, your religion doesn’t matter to me. It shouldn’t to anyone else.

I really mean God Bless you.I can do more good praying for you than arguing.

Ha. I can tell. And first of all, it’s not really arguing just because you get offended. But that’s trivial. Secondly, you’re trying to do more good for me? Then you really have proven you weren’t sincere with your blessing. And finally, i love how you think I need your help or could benefit from it. As I’ve been saying: presumptuous and judgemental. I know your only reply will be to repeat it, so do it (spitefully, of course), and get back to actually serving your God.

Why do you act like we need God? It’s you preachers who piss us off. Hmm, how about I recommend you watch The Atheist Experience? I’m not open to fantasy, you’re not open to logic and facts. Bottom line.

Wow. That truly is ridiculous. That’s with an “i”. And just because you’re offended being called an idiot does not mean it’s not reasonable. The ideas are shallow? Richard Dawkins actually conceded the best explanation is intelligent design? I can’t even believe one can say such bullshit with no shame. I mean, again, ridiculous.

Humans are pretty young in evolutionary development. Look at what we’ve learned already. You want all the answers right now? Of course you do. That’s why you *CREATED* your own answer. Tell me, how in the hell something with no substantive basis is reasonable? And if you haven’t noticed, science is constantly learning and changing and expanding. Are you that damn blind to it? How much has religion changed? Well, we don’t believe in the talking snake, rape, killing babies or virgins. But, huh, you’d think beliefs regarding a Creator would be absolute and wouldn’t change.

I’m sorry, but someone so damn entrenched in your beliefs can’t, won’t be convinced. You’ll just blame all the answers we have as inconclusive or illogical. And yet stand by your answer that was created by Man. You really think dark matter was just theorized out of the air like your idea of God? I’m sorry. I can see why you need God. He’s all you got. I’m at a loss.

Once again, I’ve supplied evidense and you continue to refute what I’ve presented as facts. Who needs to feel shame now for being wrong?

Another athiest in a long line that can call me an idiot, but not supply a better answer.

wow. so CONTEXT means nothing to you, does it? And exaggeration is completely acceptable. Once again, you have proven to be selective and hyperbolic in the “facts” you choose to present. Yes, you do need to feel shame.

STEIN NARRATION: So, Professor Dawkins was not against intelligent design, just certain “types” of designers… such as God.

Have you ever heard the theory that intelligent life  could actually be running a simulation of our universe? Actually God, and the theory I just stated aren’t even theories They are wild guesses. One is no different from the other. But thank you for YOUR attempt.

And for future reference, my man. There is a difference between evidence and truth, and HOW you see it. Yanno, kinda like that Seinfeld ep where George gets a toupee.

Look, dummies, did you read the article? Its TOO MUCH. People don’t want religion shoved down their throats constantly. (Its disturbing that Kurt Warner is so friggin dumb that it took him all this time to figure it out.) Just because ‘some’ of you feel that at some point in your life God or religion became the single most important aspect of your existence, doesnt mean we ALL need to feel that way. 90% of us would like to celebrate God and Jesus in the manner WE chose and the sooner you brain surgeons get that through your thick skulls, the sooner you will realize how much more effective you could be spreading your gospel.

We as a society are conditioned  (through experience) to be very cautious, almost to the point of distrust, when someone like Tebow constantly goes out of his way to convince everyone how good a Christian he is and how great his God is and how everyone else should think and believe exactly what HE does. Inevitably these types end up to have the most to hide………. look back at recent history, Catholic Priests, Politicians who rail against homosexuality by preaching about the sinfulness of the act and Televangelists who end up frequenting both female and male prostitutes at alarming rates.

The other aspect is that the majority of us have no problem whatsoever with Tebow, he alone would be easy enough to ignore. Instead its EVERYONE ELSE we cant get away from. Its the incessant reminder that the kid is the second coming of Jesus H Christ and how he is the greatest human to walk the face of the earth since the aforementioned. So YEAH, if you would very simply shut your pie hole the rest of us just may be able to admire him for our own reason……..those which WE consider to be important or admirable human traits, which by the way, MAY NOT BE THE SAME AS YOURS.

Oh well, I am pretty sure I am wasting my time but if I can enlighten just one of you very misguided souls then why not at least try.

For your info he has only thrown 1 int this year and has one of the best touchdown to turnover ratios in the entire league not sure about the fumbles. Also most who beleive in god praise him for his help when they do well and take the responsibilty themselves when they mess up. For instance, do you blame your parents everytime you do bad at something because they didnt help you or do you mostly thank them for when they helped you succeed? To God be the glory!

After reading all the replies here it’s no wonder Jesus tells His believers….

Matthew 7:6, “Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.”
It’s too late now but how fitting for all that was said. They trampled all over it didn’t they? Then they turned their attention to you to tear you up. Winning the argument & losing the soul is something we should stay away from. It becomes very obvious they haven’t chosen Jesus so let’s leave them with their choices unless they’re honestly looking for answers. I had to learn the same lesson myself. Lord bless the Family in Christ!
