Rex Grossman: Redskins Were a Damn Good 5-11, You Didn’t Want to Play Us

We love you, Rex Grossman.  We really do.  We admire the fact that you can go from starter, to backup, to starter, to Super Bowl, to backup, to starter, to backup, to kind of starter and just take it like a man.  Mike Shanahan has not exactly given Grossman a long leash since he named him the starter in favor of Donovan McNabb last season.  Somehow, Rex has kept on ticking.  In fact, even his opinion of the 2011 Redskins is relatively high.

“It’s hard to say this, but we were a pretty damn good 5-11,” Grossman said Wednesday during an interview with the Sirius XM Blitz, according to DC Sports Bog. “You didn’t really want to play us.”

Who didn’t want to play you exactly?  To Washington’s credit, they did beat the NFC champion Giants twice this year.  As we know, however, the Giants hit their stride late in the season and haven’t looked back since.  The Redskins had a decent defense all season, but their offense could find no consistency whatsoever.  Oh yeah, and they had five wins.

I doubt teams were all that intimidated during weeks in which they were preparing to face the Redskins.  Rex’s comments don’t surprise us, however, as delusional thoughts were an epidemic in the nation’s capital this year.  This is the same Grossman who told everyone he thought the ‘Skins would win the NFC East.  He also had teammates who in October were convinced the team was Super Bowl bound.  Categorizing the 2011 Redskins as a “damn good 5-11” seems like a completely appropriate way to cap things off.
