Michael Jordan reportedly angers country club by wearing cargo pants on course

Anyone who golfs on a regular basis can tell you that there are a few basic dress code regulations that need to be followed while on the course. Typically, cargo shorts and cargo pants are not allowed and a collared shirt is required. If a player wears shorts, they are supposed to be Bermuda shorts. Apparently Michael Jordan plays by his own rules.

According to the NY Post, Jordan angered some folks at the exclusive La Gorce Country Club in Miami Beach recently with his choice of attire.

Michael was wearing cargo pants on the course,” said a spy. Jordan’s multipocketed pants were apparently against the dress code that, sources say, dictates that members and guests must be attired in a collared shirt and Bermuda shorts. But when 6-foot, 6-inch Jordan was offered a chance to change outfits, he demurred.

“He was given the chance to change but he didn’t want to,” a source said. The source added that Jordan, who was enjoying a round at the club with one of its members, played on anyway. The source added that members complained about Jordan breaking the rules and, “He won’t be invited back.”

That sounds about right. One of Jordan’s representatives said he did indeed wear cargo pants but that he had worn them multiple times at that course before and had never been told he was in violation of the dress code. M.J. has become a notoriously horrible dresser in his retirement, even inspiring this hilarious Tumblr page.

In addition, His Airness has been accused of being a bad neighbor and leaving half-smoked cigars all around the community he lives in. He has always marched to the beat of his own drum. Some people just don’t appreciate it.

I get the whole golf course stodgy etiquette thing, but who the hell cares what Jordan wears in general when he’s not golfingl?  Idiots!

He’s Michael Jordan!  The people at the club should be happy he’s playing at their course.  I wonder if  it was Peyton Manning or Larry Bird that they would feel the same way

Yup, MJ plays by his own rules

So what if its MJ, he still has to follow the rules like every other rich person at the club.

whats that suppose to mean? Are you playing the race card ??

maybe he can change golf like he did basketball… you can travel more then a step and a half so why not wear cargo pants…

No, I’m playing the rules don’t apply to larger than life celebrities like Michael  Jordan card at a Bushwood like country club.   What kind of stuffy dickhead cares that Jordan is wearing cargo shorts?   Does anyone think that if it were Bill Clinton or Larry Bird that these snooty members would complain.     How about Dan Marino, the biggest hero is S. Florida.

Joe,  If you are not playing the race card, then why do you continue to use white rich people in your response?  Try using a non white rich person as your example of “would they complain.”  Personally, I am a huge fan of MJ, but just because he is famous and rich doesnt mean he is above the rules that are set for every other person…….rich or not.

Steve DelV, you seem a little too close to the situation.  I think you need to take a “journalistic” step back.  Offending a few of the elite by wearing a nice pair of cargo pants is really not a huge offense.

Hey Joe W…. What about Obama? Do you think he could have worn cargo shorts at that golf course without an issue?

Always have to inject President Obama. What does he have to do with this.

I perosnally dont think that Obama, Clinton, Bird or Marino would have worn cargo pants to that course or any course. Some people know the rules and follow them because it is the “right thing” to do. Other people just do as they please because they they think they are above the rules or they are “entitled” just as tiger woods thought when he continued whoring around after he got married. If you dont like the rules ………..Find another sport in which you do like the rules.

If you didn’t read Joe Woosley comments, you should go back and read them first before questioning my comment directed to ‘Joe Woosley’. If you did read Joe Woosley’s comments then you have half a brain and I’m not going to waste my time trying to explain to you want Obama has to do with this.

Hmm.. if I were on the board of a Country Club would I allow MJ to wear cargo pants? Well technically it’s breaking the rules, however his celebrity has brought and retained more members. So kicking him out for “cargo shorts” may cost us in the end but keeping him might cause me to lose my shorts.

Doesn’t matter who you are or who you THINK you are, black or white, country clubs have rules that will be followed or you won’t be back…it’s that simple….and the member who brought you to the course will also be admonished so he won’t invite you back either. Simply act like you’re civilized and you’ll be treated as such…act like you’re a punk from the hood and you’ll find the wrath of the golf community.
