High School Hockey Players Skip Prom for Hockey Tournament
If you are the romantic type and you read the above headline, you would probably have some sort of reaction like, “That’s just awful.” However, since you are reading a sports blog it is probably safe to assume you’re more like me. What that means is you probably read the headline of this post and thought to yourself, “Yeah, so what?”
According to Patch.com writer Corey Voegele via Puck Daddy, the two young ladies pictured above were stood up by their senior prom dates at Hudson High School. One of the culprits, Ryan Dau, says he warned his girlfriend, Sarah Monette, four months in advance that he had a hockey tournament scheduled for the night of the prom but his mother insisted that she not worry about it. Dau’s mother told the young lady that hockey plans change all the time and that she should not fret over the prospect of her son bailing on the prom.
These particular plans remained the same. Most importantly, Dau tore it up in the tournament and earned himself a spot on the Alaska Avalanche junior hockey team. Oh yeah, and he and Monette are still together. Boss.
