How’s this for one heck of an anecdote? None other than Jared Lorenzen, aka The Hefty Lefty aka The Pillsbury Throw Boy, played a role in the eventual sale of Barstool Sports to businessman Peter Chernin.
In an AMA interview on Reddit, Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy, who retained a 49 percent ownership stake in his company, shared that Lorenzen was the person who first connected Chernin and Barstool.
“Jared Lorenzen contacted me and asked if he could pass along my info to them. They were friends with his agent,” Portnoy said of Chernin, on Reddit.

Lorenzen has a strong relationship with Barstool and has been featured on the site many times. Remember that video of him doing a belly flop into a pool back in April that went viral? Yeah, that was done in association with Barstool Sports.
Portnoy revealed a few other nuggets of info surrounding the sale.
Here are some of the things he is expecting:
– The Barstool crew to move to New York around May, when their studio should be done
– A complete redesign of the site, though they’re still unsure if the site will roll up into one, or if they will continue to operate with city-based sites.
– More personality-driven content
The news of Lorenzen setting Barstool up with Chernin also explains these tweets from the former Kentucky quarterback:
I am waiting on my check. You're welcome @stoolpresidente @BarstoolBigCat @KFCBarstool, either that or 6 figure internship
