NFL Picks Week 5 – Del’s Selections

After looking at Doc Browns Week 5 Picks, it’s come to my attention that one of us is likely going to a have a tough go at it this week. There are 14 games being played this weekend, and Doc and Del only agree on six of them against the spread. But hey, that’s what makes this so fun. The veteran has a slight edge over the rookie in picks against the spread to this point, but as the Doc mentioned you can’t argue with our 8-1 record each in our top three picks of the week.

I completely agree with the Doc about this being the toughest week thus far.  That’s expected as the oddsmakers learn more about each team.  As for some of Del’s selections — I like Jacksonville against the Bills but am not nearly as confident in it as the Doc.  The odds of going 0-16 or 1-15 are pretty slim, so the Bills have to win sometime.  This looks like it could be one of those games where they pick up one of their few wins.  I like the Bengals to cover at home against Tampa Bay.  The Bucs’ 2-1 record is very misleading and I think Cincinnati bounces back from a tough loss to the Browns.

The Carolina-Chicago game is kind of a toss-up, but I had to go with Carolina once the Bears ruled out Jay Cutler.  The Panthers held their own against the Saints last weekend and I can’t see them losing at home to Todd Collins.  They should be able to grab their first win.  Another team that should be able to pick up it’s first win is the Niners, for a similar reason.  They’re at home and desperate to get in the win column.  Fortunately for San Francisco, the red-hot Michael Vick won’t be suiting up.  I like them by more than a field goal.

As for Monday night, I forsee a phenomenal game between the Vikings and Jets.  The Vikings are coming off an early, but needed, bye week and now have Randy Moss at the disposal.  Darrelle Revis is back to smack-talking Moss and Moss loves a change of scenery enough that he doesn’t need any extra motivation.  I think the Jets are a better team and will eek out a victory, but I think four points is too many to give the Vikings with their new weapon.  Here are Del’s NFL Picks Week 5:
