Aaron Judge certainly did not do his reputation any favors this weekend.
Judge and the New York Yankees faced the Toronto Blue Jays for Game 2 of the ALDS on Sunday. During the bottom of the second inning at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ont., Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho was leading off.
Varsho shot a fair ball down the line in right and was quickly digging for second base. Judge, who was stationed in right field for the Yankees, then completely booted it and allowed Varsho to take third on him.

Judge was charged with an error on the play. Meanwhile, Toronto’s next batter (Ernie Clement) hit a home run to open up the scoring and make it 2-0 Blue Jays.
The reigning AL MVP Judge proceeded to get fried over social media for the misplay (with many pointing to his notoriety for poor performance during the postseason). Check it out.

Granted, the Judge play alone did not really matter in the end because the Blue Jays proceeded to demolish the Yankees from there. They went on to take a 12-0 lead over the Yankees by the end of the fifth inning, highlighted by a monstrous grand slam by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the fourth.
But that didn’t make Judge look any better as the miscue gave him two errors over his last six playoff games (after committing just two errors in total over the last four regular seasons combined). Judge also notably struck out with the bases loaded in a key at-bat during the Yankees’ Game 1 loss to the Blue Jays on Saturday.
In fairness to the 33-year-old slugger Judge, he did improve his playoff reputation some by helping the Yankees make the World Series last year and by hitting .400 this postseason entering play on Sunday. But outfield defense has really been an Achilles heel for Judge in the playoffs (as you may recall that his error in Game 5 of last year’s World Series opened the door for a generational meltdown by the Yankees).
