Chris Archer exits game in first inning with forearm tightness

Chris Archer

Chris Archer made his 29th start of the season on Saturday, but it did not last nearly as long as he or the Rays expected.

During the first inning of the Rays’ game against the White Sox, Archer surrendered back-to-back home runs to Alen Hanson and Yolmer Sanchez, the first two batters in Chicago’s lineup. That’s as long as Archer’s evening would last.

Archer left the game with what is being called right lateral forearm tightness. According to the broadcast, he felt discomfort while warming up that carried over to the game.

The decision is being called precautionary and the Rays should now more after further evaluation on Sunday. Archer came into Saturday with a 3.66 ERA and 9-7 record. His 225 strikeouts and 179.1 innings pitcher are both second in the American League. Archer also named to his second All-Star team.
