Giants closer Mark Melancon may not be ready for Opening Day
The injuries continue to pile up for the San Francisco Giants as Opening Day approaches on Thursday.
Giants manager Bruce Bochy indicated on Tuesday that closer Mark Melancon may not be ready to open the season due to some issues with his arm.
Something might be going on with Melancon, who’s coming off pronator surgery. Supposed to play catch today and tomorrow, and Bochy said Giants will be cautious with him. Not sounding 100 percent confident.

Melancon is coming off an operation designed to alleviate issues in his forearm and does not sound like he’s at full strength.
The 32-year-old reliever struggled last season after four consecutive strong years. He had a 4.50 ERA in 30 innings out of the pen for the Giants.
On top of Melancon, relief pitcher Julian Fernandez is going on the DL with a UCL issue. Starter Jeff Samardzija has a strained pec muscle, and Madison Bumgarner is out with a fracture on his pitching hand.
