Gio Gonzalez was unable to generate much interest on the free agent market over the winter before signing a minor league contract with the New York Yankees, and the left-hander will now have to do it all over again.
The Yankees chose not to add Gonzalez to their 25-man roster prior to Saturday, which was the deadline for when that needed to happen before he was able to request his release. On Monday, the Yankees announced that Gonzalez will once again become a free agent.
Earlier today, LHP Gio Gonzalez was released from his minor league contract. He will not be added to the Yankees’ 25-man roster, thus making him a free agent.

Although the Yankees have dealt with some injuries to their starting rotation, they still did not deem Gonzalez to be worthy of a roster spot. That does not bode well for the 33-year-old, who went 2-1 with a 6.00 ERA in three starts at Triple-A.

Gonzalez painted a grim picture of the interest he received during the offseason, and it’s possible — if not likely — that he will experience that this time around as well.
