Mariners’ Hunter Strickland out several months with Grade 2 lat strain
The Seattle Mariners have lost closer Hunter Strickland for a while with a Grade 2 lat strain.
Strickland allowed three runs in a blown save in his Mariners debut Friday night, and it’s now clearer why. He’s been placed on the injured list, but does not need surgery.
Mariners closer Hunter Strickland says MRI showed a Grade 2 lat strain (with 1 being best and 3 worst). Says good news it’s not Grade 3 requiring surgery. “It sucks, but you have to find the positives. At least I’ll be back at some point this season.”

The good news was limited, as manager Scott Servais ruled Strickland out for several months.
Sevais says Strickland will be out “at least a couple months.” Mariners will continue going with closer by committee for now. https://t.co/CtdufOPMDJ

Strickland had a new team and was promising an improved demeanor in his first season with the Mariners. We’ll have to wait a while to see it, as this is a pretty bad break for him early on in his Seattle career.
