Jacob deGrom has clean MRI on elbow, will try to make next start

Jacob deGrom

The New York Mets got a scare earlier in the week when Jacob deGrom was forced to leave a game with an elbow injury, but it does not sound like the right-hander is dealing with anything serious.

On Thursday, the Mets announced that deGrom’s MRI came back clean and that he will attempt to make his next start.

A report from Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News claims deGrom will miss at least four starts, but the Mets sound far more optimistic.

deGrom threw four scoreless innings against the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday before exiting the game. Mets manager Mickey Callaway said deGrom suffered the injury on a swing in his last at-bat, not while he was throwing. The 29-year-old is 3-0 with a 1.87 ERA and 54 strikeouts this season. If he’s unable to start on Monday, a certain disgruntled member of New York’s pitching staff could rejoin the starting rotation.
