The Colorado Rockies signed Nolan Arenado to a massive contract extension prior to last season, but they are already at least exploring the possibility of moving on from the star third baseman.
The Rockies have been fielding calls about Arenado trades this offseason, and Jon Morosi of MLB.com reports that there is a 50/50 chance a deal could be made this winter. As many as six teams have expressed interest in Arenado.
Sources: Nolan Arenado has roughly a 50/50 chance of being traded, with a half-dozen teams having checked in, as I just reported on @MLBNetwork. The #Dodgers are *not* the most likely destination, as #Rockies prefer not to trade Arenado in the division. @MLB

The Washington Nationals are one team that could have interest in Arenado if they are unable to sign free agent slugger Josh Donaldson, though their unwillingness to part with outfielder Victor Robles makes a blockbuster trade seem unlikely.
#Nats pursuing trade options in case Josh Donaldson signs elsewhere, but sources say they’ve been reluctant to make Victor Robles available in discussions with #Rockies on Arenado and #Cubs on Bryant. @MLBNetwork @MLB

Arenado signed an eight-year, $260 million extension with Colorado a year ago. Most teams would be hesitant to take on that kind of contract while also giving up prospects, so the Rockies would likely have to pay some of it down. Even if they are willing to listen to offers, we heard similar talk last season that ended up going nowhere.
