Red Sox place Chris Sale on DL with shoulder inflammation
Just when everything is going well for the Boston Red Sox, something comes along and slows the momentum. In this case, it’s Cy Young contender Chris Sale heading to the disabled list.
The Red Sox announced on Tuesday that Sale will be placed on the 10-day DL due to left shoulder inflammation.
Chris Sale to the disabled list. This is not a drill. Chris Sale to the disabled list. Left shoulder inflammation.

The Sox had been rolling this year, leading MLB with a 75-33 record. Sale was similarly hot, leading the AL with a 2.04 ERA and 207 strikeouts.
The good news is Red Sox president Dave Dombrowski says Sale will only miss one start and did not even need an MRI.
Dombrowski said Sale was “adamant” he would miss only one start. Suspicion is how he throws his slider could be the cause. Team is being cautious. MRI was not needed.

Boston better hope the injury is not serious and does not linger. The Red Sox recalled Brandon Workman from Triple-A to help the bullpen. The addition of starter Nathan Eovaldi also seems even more critical now.
