Yankees use Cam Newton, Russell Wilson as examples in media training
The New York Yankees are putting their players through media training, and they had a message for them: be more like Russell Wilson and less like Cam Newton.
According to ESPN New York’s Andrew Marchand, the Yankees used video of the post-Super Bowl press conferences of Newton and Wilson as examples of how to handle the media. Newton, of course, was difficult and walked off prematurely during his press conference after losing, while Wilson was forthcoming and answered every question after a very tough loss.
Media training does matter a lot in New York. If you can’t handle the New York media, very bad things can happen to you. Given all the hoopla about Newton’s actions, it’s understandable that the Yankees want it drilled into their players’ heads that they don’t want to see anything like that from them.
