Report: Cavs players felt Stephen Curry’s ‘champagne’ comment was disrespectful
The Golden State Warriors are visiting Cleveland Monday night for the first time since they closed out the NBA Finals with a Game 6 win over the Cavaliers last year. Stephen Curry is looking forward to the return, though he may have ruffled some feathers with the way he described his excitement.
On Sunday, Curry said he hopes the visiting locker room at Quicken Loans Arena still smells like the champagne the Warriors showered it with back in June.
“Obviously, walking in the locker room, it’ll be good memories,” he told reporters. “Hopefully, it still smells a little bit like champagne.”
Any player would have good memories when returning to a place where he won his first NBA championship, but some people interpreted the comments as a shot at the Cavs. According to Chris Haynes of Cleveland.com, some Cavs players viewed the quote as “disrespectful.”
Curry seemingly defended the remarks on Twitter.

Curry is hardly known as a trash-talker, and the praise that was showered on him by his teammates after he won the MVP last season reflected that. And if you want to know how LeBron James feels about Curry, this quote says it all.
I doubt Curry meant to disrespect the Cavs, but you can never have too much bulletin board material when a 37-4 team comes to town.
