LeBron James sent fans into a frenzy on Monday when he teased what appeared to be a major career announcement, but those who suspected an advertisement was forthcoming were proven to be correct.
James shared a 10-second video on social media that showed him walking onto a basketball court to sit down for what appeared to be some sort of interview. The brief clip was a promo for something called “The Second Decision.”
There was some speculation that LeBron was setting the stage for his latest Amazon ad. Amazon is one of the Los Angeles Lakers star’s biggest sponsor, and Tuesday marked the start of the latest Amazon Prime Day event.
Other fans thought there was a chance James was going to reveal that the 2025-26 season will be his last in the NBA. Instead, LeBron and Hennessy announced that the famous cognac brand is releasing a limited edition bottle as part of their partnership, which began last year.

The promo was designed to look like LeBron’s infamous “The Decision” 2010 ESPN special, during which he announced he was signing with the Miami Heat. James was even wearing a similar shirt to the one he wore 15 years ago.
After the Hennessy promo was released, many fans made comments about how they thought LeBron was going to announce his retirement.

The teaser for the Hennessy ad certainly created plenty of buzz. It even resulted in ticket prices for one Lakers game skyrocketing.
There is no guarantee that LeBron will play beyond the upcoming season, but the 40-year-old is not ready to place a timeline on when his playing career will end. When he does, we doubt any news will come in the form of a spoof of “The Decision.”
