Jamal Crawford expected to become free agent

Jamal Crawford

Jamal Crawford could be on his way to changing teams for the ninth time in his career.

Crawford is expected to opt out of the second year of his two-year, $9 million contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves, ESPN’s Chris Haynes reports. He was due to make $4.5 million next season.

Crawford, 38, averaged 10.3 points and 2.3 assists in 20.7 minutes per game this season for the Timberwolves, his first with the team. He played in 80 games with the team and helped them reach the playoffs for the first time since 2004.

Haynes further reports that Jimmy Butler is pushing management to try to retain Crawford by any means necessary.
