Lamar Odom is said to have resorted to some of his old ways just eight months after he nearly died of a drug overdose, and one person who is familiar with Odom’s situation believes the former NBA star is being held back by a friend.
Ron Dock, a certified addiction and recovery specialist who was called upon by Odom’s family for help, explained on Monday what went wrong when Odom walked out of an intervention attempt in New York over the weekend.
“The main focus was going to be his son and daughter. I had them write letters and they were going to submit the letters to their father explaining their feelings about his behavior,” Dock told Derrick Bryson Taylor of Page Six. “It was all set in place until this negative energy came. For [his friend’s] own selfish motives, sabotage the intervention.”

Dock claims an unnamed friend who grew up with Odom intentionally thwarted the intervention attempt.
“I think some people want people around you to keep you sick so they can get what they want from you,” he said. “I believe this is the case here. I think this guy just kept us away from (Odom). He’s a very ugly person. If anything happens to Lamar, I would blame that energy right there.”
Dock runs two treatment facilities in Florida along with former MLB star Darryl Strawberry, who was ready to join the intervention via video chat. Odom never gave those close to him a chance to be heard.
As we shared with you previously, Odom has been kicked out of the house Khloe Kardashian was renting for him and was recently removed from an airplane for a disturbing reason. He’s obviously very much in need of help, and Dock said he hopes Odom becomes open to receiving it “before he dies.”
